Mentoring for Mountaineering Instructors

Throughout my career I have had some amazing and influential mentors that have inspired and supported me at various key points along the way.

I have experience of directing and working on MCI and WMCI training and assessment courses since 2009, as well as all of the other Mountain Training NGB qualifications since 2005. Coupled with 20 years in the industry; instruction and guiding, this gives me a fairly unique understanding of what is required to be an instructor, and key insight into the assessment process.  This ultimately helps me act as a sound and effective mentor.

To help support the outdoor industry in my own small way, I would like to offer one person from each of the Mountaineering Instructor qualifications the opportunity of mentoring.

The opportunity is gained by application and comes with all the benefits listed below. Please contact me for the application form.

Apprenticeships

My apprenticeships are there to help others gain access to adventurous climbing where they might otherwise have struggled, and to give them the best possible foundation, so as to enjoy a lifetime themselves.

Apprenticeships are currently in Rock Climbing, and Scottish Winter Climbing. An apprenticeship is gained by application or nomination, it will begin with 5 days of climbing together, whatever the weather, whatever the conditions, with the aim of ensuring a sound base of skills, techniques, efficiency, understanding, judgement, decision making, motivation, commitment, psyche, and mindset.  I aim to start these apprenticeships in 2022 when all the craziness has blown over.
