Backcountry Skiing Skills

Travelling through the mountains in winter on skis is super special.  The appeal of untracked powder and solitude of the mountains away from the pistes can be strong, but does require key knowledge to stay safe.  I’ve designed some courses that help you learn the important skills so that you can get out there and enjoy the winter mountains safely yourselves.

How To Stay Safe In Avalanche Terrain

This is a really focused course, full of super helpful information to help you understand the often baffling world of avalanche safety.  I’ll keep things simple and tangible, more about the practical application of knowledge to the realities of skiing on avalanche terrain than snow science and crystal identification.  Sure we can geek out a bit, but without it clouding the simple key principles.  This is all about gaining sound knowledge and ingraining good habits.

This course is for experienced skiers and snowboarders wanting to make the transition in to backcountry.  There is a lot to learn so this is not the time to be leaning how to ski.  The course will work best if you are already competent at skinning too.
